Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort – Construction Update and Rug/Wallpaper Test, Walt Disney World

Hi everyone!

One of the biggest requests we’ve had lately is for Grand Floridian DVC construction photos. We aren’t doing nearly as many construction photos as we used to, but we do like to get over there from time to time to check it out. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will be turning 25 years old next week, which is really hard to believe!

I remember when the resort first opened, it was a really big deal. And now, you can see the familiar colors of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort appearing on the villas. From what I understand, DVC members are just starting to be able to book rooms for the planned October opening. We were also told about a wallpaper/rug test going in in one of the buildings of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort (apparently for the villas), so we have some photos of that as well.

Construction really took off a couple of months ago, we are only looking at about 4 months until the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort open.

The Alice in Wonderland play area was added late last year in anticipation of the Villas.

The building is very large, but looks like it will blend in nicely with the rest of the resort otherwise.

Here is the rug and wallpaper test – the pineapple wallpaper is what is in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the more muted one is what we were told might be used for the villas. The flowered rug is the decor of Disney’s Grand Floridian, the newer rug is the test rug. From what I understand, it isn’t just about color, but to see if the rug will stand up to use.

Back outside, the Grand 1 was in the marina, along with the Pirate boat. I’ve only been on the Grand 1 once, it was one of the nicest experiences I’ve had in over 35 years of visiting Walt Disney World.

The Courtyard pool at Disney’s Grand Floridian has some new water features – mostly it seems to be small fountains in the water. It looks really nice in the evening.

The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will have 147 units from Deluxe Studios to three-bedroom Grand Villas.
