Review: BOATHOUSE at Downtown Disney Opens With Expansive Views, Upscale Food at Future Disney Springs
Last month, we shared an interview with The BOATHOUSE founder Steven Schussler, who has opened several restaurant concepts at Walt Disney World: Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex Cafe and Yak & Yeti. This week, his latest restaurant concept opened at Downtown Disney (soon to be Disney Springs). Unlike the other restaurants I mentioned, The BOATHOUSE is not a Landry's restaurant - it is managed by Gibsons Restaurant Group out of Chicago, which is highly regarded for its steak and seafood. There is a chain of Landry's restaurants in Canada called The Boathouse, but this is not related in any way. The BOATHOUSE at Downtown Disney is one-of-a-kind. Menus are printed daily depending on what has been caught, and there are a lot of options - more menu choices than just about anywhere at Walt Disney World.
I photographed Disney's Coronado Springs Resort for this photo walk a couple of weeks ago, I am sorry it took a while to get it posted! It was a cloudy day when we went, although I actually like it that way for photos. There are 3 pages and about 250 photos.
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort is one of 4 Walt Disney World moderate resorts (not counting Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground, which has changed classifications many times). Disney's Coronado Springs resort has a huge convention center, the only moderate at Walt Disney World to have one. Because of that, the resort also has numerous upgrades from the other moderates. It includes a fitness center, beauty parlor, more dining options, and even a nightclub. The lobby is the most impressive of the moderates (though I am also partial to Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter). And the pool? It features a Mayan Pyramid. One thing I prefer about Disney's Port Orleans Resort is the boat transportation to Downtown Disney/Disney Springs. Otherwise, there are many aspects of the Southwestern-themed Disney's Coronado Springs Resort I like compared to other moderates. The actual timed portion of the photo walk is around the lake, but we'll see much more than that in this article.
Last month, we interviewed Schussler Creative CEO Steven Schussler about his upcoming restaurant at Walt Disney Word, the BOATHOUSE. Situated at Downtown Disney (soon to be Disney Springs) in the former Pleasure Island, the BOATHOUSE restaurant will be an upscale dining experience serving primarily steak and seafood. Yesterday we enjoyed watching the amphicars as they took to the lake. This first photo is the view from Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort with Characters in Flight and Planet Hollywood in frame.
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort opened the first phase of Disney Vacation Club villas (including the Bora Bora Bungalows) on April 1, and now the Lava Pool is open for guests. For the first time ever, the resort also has a hot tub. Kiki Tikis Splash Play is still being worked on and hopefully will be open soon. Both Jeff and I have been visiting since the 1970's, and this is the biggest change I can remember in that time. We have an article from a few months back when the Polynesian Village Resort lobby opened, and when Trader Sam's opened last week. Everything has been falling into place, and even those who miss the old lobby seem to be mostly embracing the new.
Trader Sam's Grog Grotto Lives Up to West Coast Version with Unique Experiences, Drinks and Decor (150 Photos, Video)
Trader Sam's Grog Grotto had a "soft opening" yesterday at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. I was very suprised that Disney announced it, and I knew that meant that the East Coast version of the popular Disneyland tiki bar would be extremely busy. Once announced, we planned to go in the afternoon - but at the last minute, we figured morning would be better and more organized. It was both.
This article is photo heavy, with about 150 pictures and a few embedded videos on 2 pages. We also have an article about Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar from 2011 if you want to see the California equivilent!
