Tips For Visiting the Epcot International Festival of the Arts 2018, Including Disney on Broadway Concert Series and Food Studios
The Epcot International Festival of the Arts kicked off on January 12th, 2018. This is just the second year of the Festival, which became popular very quickly and has expanded both in offerings and dates for this year. The 2017 debut saw only 4 days a week for the Epcot Festival of the Arts, which now is an every day event through February 19th, 2018. This is now probably my second favorite Walt Disney World event behind the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, which we'll be sharing with you for our 12th year in just over a month. Mousesteps Weekly show #254 will be mostly about the Epcot International Festival of the Arts and I will embed that when we record it.
I especially like that Epcot's resident dragon Figment is again a big part of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts.
It is a cold one here in Central Florida, bottoming out into the 30s tonight. We did head out yesterday to Disney's Hollywood Studios for a couple of hours, it had been a couple of months since we've visited during the day (we've visited quite often through the holidays at night). Here is a look around the park, including Disney Skyliner progression and concept art, along with the Miss Piggy fountain and much more.
I realized a few days ago that I was just about to mark ten years since my night in the Cinderella Castle Suite as part of the Year of a Million Dreams. Mousesteps was pretty new then, almost a year old. The photos are small, I don't know where my originals are - hopefully someday I will find them again. It was really a once-in-a-lifetime event, although I have been able to tour the suite once since then. Here is the story as I wrote it back then, with a little extra added. Maybe I will write something a little more elaborate soon, if anyone is interested. For someone with a terrible memory, I actually still remember it quite well. These photos are on 7 pages as I only put 20 pics per page back then and I need to reformat it. - Denise, 12/22/2017
I was planning to meet family over at the Magic Kingdom a couple of days ago. Before I left the house, I received a call from my mom asking "do you want to stay in the castle tonight"?
Book Review: "The Lion King (Celebrating The Lion King's 20th Anniversary on Broadway): Twenty Years on Broadway and Around the World"
We received The Lion King (Celebrating The Lion King's 20th Anniversary on Broadway): Twenty Years on Broadway and Around the World to review. The Lion King on Broadway celebrated 20 years in 2017, and is Broadway's highest earning production of all time - at over 1 billion dollars. The book itself has been out for just over a month, I also reviewed The Lion King: Pride Rock on Broadway today that celebrates this longtime beloved Broadway show.
Our Preview Tour of The Edison, Maria & Enzo's Ristorante and Enzo's Hideaway Tunnel Bar at Disney Springs
We were invited to tour the newest concepts coming to Disney Springs this winter. For a couple of years, The Edison has been taking shape on the edge of Village Lake in what was the former Adventurers Club location. More recently announced, also by the Patina Restaurant Group, are three Italian concepts as part of the same complex: Maria & Enzo's Ristorante, Pizza Ponte and Enzo's Hideaway Tunnel Bar. While each is a very separate location in offerings and atmosphere, they are all grouped together by story and connected physically. We were unable to take photos ourselves yesterday (the buildings aren't yet 100% "show ready" to put it into Disney speak), but they are close to opening - The Edison will have its grand opening on December 31st, 2017 with a specially ticketed New Year's Eve event and the other restaurants look very close to ready. We only did not tour Pizza Ponte, which will be a fast casual concept.
We were provided with photos, and I will talk a little about each location. These four concepts more than double the Patina Restaurant Group Florida portfolio, which already has my favorite local Italian restaurant in Epcot's Via Napoli, along with Epcot's Tutto Italia and Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs.
Disney-Pixar's Coco is now out in theaters. We had already written up an article about the press conference we were invited to in California, and have reviewed a couple of books on the film (anything Coco related we have links at the end of the review). But I wanted to share my thoughts on the movie, which is now my second favorite Pixar film behind the Parisian delight Ratatouille. The movie was preceded by the 21 minute "short" Olaf's Frozen Adventure. I won't be reviewing that as the guests around me were very loud during it - it looked very cute, better than I expected but will wait until my next viewing to be able to concentrate on that one.
New Epcot Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Exhibit Opens at Mexico Pavilion in Advance of Disney-Pixar Film "Coco" (75 Photos)
There is a new exhibit at the Epcot Mexico pavilion called "Remember Me!’ La Celebración del Día de Muertos". Many Disney parks have displays and celebrations currently for Day of the Dead, which is the inspiration for the upcoming Disney-Pixar animated film "Coco". Day of the Dead was first noticed by me at Disneyland many years ago, and there is a large Day of the Dead presence at Disney California Adventure this year. Unlike DCA, I didn't see anything for "Coco" mentioned here yet, but there are 3 or 4 displays not yet filled. It certainly helps Disney guests learn more about the Mexican celebration, which is held on November 1st and 2nd each year. I learned quite a bit that I didn't know.
The exhibit features new art as well as artifacts that are hundreds of years old, blended nicely in display cases throughout the gallery. This is already my favorite exhibit that has run here. There is no current end date on it.
