Walking the Disney's Boardwalk (with plenty of photos!)
Written by Denise

One of my favorite places at Disney to exercise is in the Boardwalk area – which takes me from MGM to Epcot, and around the Boardwalk, Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin Resorts. For this walk, I am starting at the sign that links the Disney MGM Studios to the path that leads to the Boardwalk. There are other forms of recreation that I’ll also mention (some are for resort guests only). These pages will be graphics heavy, I liked a lot of the photos!

This is a wonderful place to walk and run! This past weekend, I started at the sign at 11:02am. I timed a number of sections of the walk, so I’ll mention that as I get to those areas. The times are for non-stop walking – I didn’t take the photos as I timed.

The photos are from 2 different days – both picture perfect! The weather here has been wonderful in the past month.

From the walkway leading to the Boardwalk, the Tower of Terror is to the left.

I actually really love the Swan and Dolphin, and how they look with the color of the pavement and the railings. Here are some photos walking towards them:

Also the tennis courts of the Boardwalk Resort:

And more walkway, with the Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas towards the right:

I arrived to the green posts near this sign below at 11:14am. The length of the walkway only took 12 minutes – and at my pace, that would put it at about a half a mile. My regular walking pace tends to be about 3 miles per hour.

Image

I turned right to go around the Boardwalk – and actually, there is a great place below to duck in for some fruit (I’m not mentioning all the ice cream, bakery items and candy you can get along the way as well – I’m trying to keep this healthy! :))

Image

The fruit is actually really reasonably priced still (as of this writing).

Image

The Boardwalk also has a surrey bike rental. These can be rented (and driven badly!) by anyone.

One of my favorite places to go is the pizza window at the Boardwalk. It’s not too expensive, and one slice and an ice water will hold me a few hours.

The view below as you are on the bridge near the International Gateway into Epcot. The Swan and Dolphin look so far from there, but you can see by the time how short a walk it actually is.

Disney’s Beach Club:

The Yacht and Beach Club share a fitness center, which is now free for those staying at those resorts.

Image

The Beach Club Marketplace is a couple of years old now – and even though they aren’t making sandwiches fresh (as I’m told they have), there are still some wonderful options for good food here. They also have gelato – which isn’t especially healthy, but a nice treat on a hot day!

Image

Beach’s n Cream is also located there – and they have a great chicken soup! (A great, healthy alternative to many of the other offerings). Of course, I love a burger once in a while too. :)

Image

Disneys Yacht and Beach Club resorts share Stormalong Bay – which is probably the most popular pool area on Disney property. It is also only for Yacht and Beach Club guests! From the last timed point (at the Boardwalk sign), the time was 11:23 when I reached here. The walk looks long, but that was only 9 minutes!

Image

Hurricane Hannahs (which is accessible from the Boardwalk) does include some health fare, like salads and wraps:

Image

Sometimes you’ll get to see a wedding (I actually saw portions of 3 on the day I photographed this):

Image

I arrived at the Boardwalk sign at 11:30, just 7 minutes from Stormalong Bay!

Image

Here is the sign to head towards Fantasia Gardens. This was the last walk portion I timed – and I arrived there at 11:35.

Image

Fantasia Gardens is a fabulous miniature golf course – also available to anyone who pays (and it has it’s own parking lot). Annual passholders do get a discount here!

Image

Image

And if you are walking to and from Fantasia Gardens from the Boardwalk, definitely realize that there are no traffic lights! This hasn’t been a problem for me, but there are not only buses that know there is a crosswalk, but car traffic as well!

Image

Coming back, you’ll see the Dolphin again as you head towards the Boardwalk.

I often have spent a couple of hours walking around the Boardwalk and pathway to MGM. The total time for me to go from the sign at MGM, to the Boardwalk, around the Boardwalk and to Fantasia Gardens was only 33 minutes. There aren’t as many people in my photos, but it isn’t unusual to see a lot of walkers and runners (especially in the early morning and evening).

Pictures ARE worth a 1,000 words....It still makes me wonder if there are any rooms at the BWV that are better than others to access the nice walkways, easier than others??? Any suggestions for studios to request upon check in?

Thanks for a little Disney break . I have often wondered what it would be like to walk through that area. Usually only fleeting views from the bus windows is all we get. :)
Can't wait to stay at BCV or BWV

I hope to stay at either Boardwalk or Beach next year, I love the thought of being able to walk to the parks.
Thanks for the pics.
