DL Extra Features
Fantasmic! at Disneyland is overall better than ever, we viewed it several times during our trip in July. For one of those viewings, we had booked the Fantasmic! Dining Package at the River Belle Terrace. The River Belle Terrace will be closing for a refurbishment with Cafe Orleans replacing it during that time period.
From the Disney Parks Blog: While River Belle Terrace is under refurbishment at Disneyland park, guests can make reservations beginning August 15 for the Cafe Orleans dining package. These packages are available September 5 – November 16.
No matter which table service venue you are dining in, this will give an idea of what to expect with the food and Fantasmic! Dining Package process and show. To be honest, my first choice for the dining package would have been Blue Bayou but it sold out for each night we were there almost immediately once packages went on sale. For about $20 more per person ($65 vs. $45 plus tax and gratuity), it offers a beautiful setting and really a better menu and I wouldn't go any other way next time if booking a package. But if you are on a tight Disneyland deadline and want a good spot with little work, the River Belle Terrace was fine for that. Here is a look at the full experience. The one package that is different is at the Hungry Bear, the food is a boxed meal. You can book packages at 60 days out here.
Review: Beach Side Bonfire Buffet is a Dinner Gem at Paradise Pier Hotel During Disneyland 60th Diamond Celebration
A new buffet option recently opened at the Disneyland Resort, the Beach Side Bonfire buffet. It is a mouthful to say, and there is no beach and no bonfire to speak of. The buffet is located at the PCH Grill inside Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. We found the price reasonable for a Disney buffet, on par with the soon-to-close Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue - and all inclusive of soft drinks AND dessert.
It has been quite a few years since we've walked into the Paradise Pier Hotel, and I last stayed here when it was the Disneyland Pacific Hotel in the late 90's. We don't stay on property, usually opting for what is now called the "Grove District". So when we wanted to visit Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel for our dinner, we walked from Disney California Adventure park into Disney's Grand Californian Resort, and then the Paradise Pier Hotel was just across the street. It is not a bad walk from the parks, but you do need to give a little time (15 minutes from the Disneyland entrance should be enough). It is a nice respite from the busy parks!
We were invited to the media preview of Mickey and the Magical Map at Disneyland. Set in the Fantasyland Theatre near the Small World Mall, Mickey and the Magical Map is a colorful, multi-level stage production with some twists of technological wizardry.
Mickey Mouse in Fustanella, Hercules Delight Guests at Opa! A Celebration of Greece Over Memorial Day Weekend at Disneyland
I returned from California early Sunday morning after a few days that began with a media press event for Mickey and the Magical Map, followed by the Monstrous Summer overnighter and ending with Opa! A Celebration of Greece. Smaller in scale than the Monstrous Summer overnighter, Opa! was just as much fun, with character appearances by Mickey Mouse in a Fustanella and Hercules.
9/10 Fairy Periwinkle From "Secret of the Wings" Debuts at Disneyland, Tinker Bell in Winter Clothes
We spent 11 nights in the Anaheim area, and enjoyed quite a few days taking photos and video around Disneyland and the re-imagined Disney California Adventure to share with you! The first article I'm posting is from our last day, when frost fairy Periwinkle made her debut.
