Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Disney’s Grand Floridian Photo Walk 2012 – 200 Photos

I published a photo walk of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort back in 2007, which is somewhat different than what you’ll find here for the 2012 walk! There is now construction on the Grand Floridian DVC Villas, which open later in 2013. I expect I’ll have another photo walk of this area once that is open!

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort – formerly called Disney’s Grand Floridian Beach Resort – is inspired by the Hotel Del Coronado near San Diego. I’ve seen the Del Coronado many times from a distance, but we stopped there last year on the way back from Sea World San Diego. While the building exterior is extremely similar, the inside is not. It is gorgeous, though – and right on the ocean! And it’s featured prominently in the film Some Like It Hot.

I’ve stayed at nearly every Walt Disney World resort over the last 35 years, including Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort – but I’ve stayed here less than nearly any other resort – just one time, for one night – and nearly 20 years after I first booked a stay during opening year (I ended up cancelling back then due to cost). It is very elegant, but I prefer Disney’s Polynesian Resort, which was the first resort I ever stayed at – and I’ve stayed there more than any other. I have dined at Disney’s Grand Floridian dozens of times, and enjoy visiting for the atmosphere. And I love the walk between Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! This is a continuation of that walk.

We ended the timed portion of Disney’s Polynesian Resort at Luau Cove, and that is where we’ll be picking up on our way to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. It really is only about a 20 minute walk from the Ticket and Transportation to Narcoossee’s (restaurant) at the Grand Floridian! It’s a beautiful walk also.

I photograph the walk first, and then time it. We are starting in front of Luau Cove at 4pm.

A crane sits in the distance at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. I’ve gotten a few emails asking about whether the DVC construction effects the resort itself – and so far, I’d say not much. I haven’t found it terribly loud, and both pool areas are open. We do follow construction projects at Walt Disney World, so you can follow us for that until the Villas at the Grand Floridian open next year.

We are walking along the path toward the Wedding Pavilion.
