I was over at WDW – planning to work more on the AK photo walk (didn't happen). I had first stopped at T-Rex, which is building rapidly. Then I went to the Contemporary – the new Fantasia shop sign was up, and I found out when I spoke with a CM there that today was finally the grand opening. I just saw that the Orlando Sentinel has an article on Disney's upcoming Contemporary DVC (KTV).
Today, I'm going out of order on the photos – I wanted to put the Fantasia grand opening first. The shop actually opened a day or two prior to Thanksgiving (I have many photos of it going up, and after it did open). However, the Grand Opening had been pushed towards Christmas due to not yet having doors up. Well, it turns out that the doors didn't go in until last week, so today was chosen for the ceremony. I'd planned to be at WDW yesterday, but ended up going today – by accident, not knowing anything was going on. I was told that the store would be closing at 3:30pm to set up for the 4pm event. Also, there is now a video monitor at the front of the store showing the monorail merchandise.
Guests and cast started congregating about 20 minutes prior to the event:
I wasn't sure why the photographer (well, Photopass) set the cast members off to the side of the store, instead of in front of it. A row of the cast with a slight turn to one side would have looked nice spread across the front of the shop.
