D23 Expo 2011 – Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix

Hi everyone!

Today is the last day of the D23 Expo, but I'll be adding articles over the next few days.  I wanted to share some photos from one of my presenations that we've been too, Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix.

We weren't even planning to get on line as early as we did for the show, we were heading to the trivia contest (held in the same room) to see a friend compete. But the line was already long 3 hours prior to the show, and we had to make a choice between the two. Our friend did win the trivia tournament!

Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix is an acapella group that began when one of the members of the group approached Van Dyke in a Starbucks, saying that he'd heard Van Dyke liked acapella music. Soon, the group was born and singing in Dick Van Dyke's house. They've been together for over 10 years now! We'll have videos up of many of the songs in the next couple of days. Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix spent about an hour singing a combination of Disney and non-Disney songs, including "Step in Time", "Jolly Holiday" and even a Sesame Street medly with what ended up being one of my favorite songs of the evening, "I love Trash". They are great! You can find their album Put on a Happy Face on Amazon, along with Dick Van Dyke's memoir.
