Busch Gardens has announced a new show that is set to debut in February of 2012! Combining live animals, aerial performances, puppetry and skating with a brand new score, Iceploration is unlike anything that Busch Gardens has attempted before.
Busch Gardens says that "Iceploration inspires audiences to "explore the world" on a 30-minute journey to the four corners of the earth". We were there for the announcement that included human performers as well as beautiful siberian huskies who are now training for the show.
There is a story to Iceploration. Austin, a technology oriented teenager and his grandfather travel the world as his grandfather tries to show Austin that he is not as connected to the world as he thinks. Throughout the 30 minute show, the two embark on a journey that takes them to the Great Barrier Reef, the Artic, the Amazon Rainforest, and the African Serengeti.
Busch Gardens President Jim Dean and Vice President of Entertainment, Nancy Hutson were on hand to talk about the upcoming offering as performers in colorful outfits scampered about the stage, and two of the show's siberian huskies were introduced. We have a full video of the announcement.
We interviewed Busch Gardens President Jim Dean, who discussed the inspiration for bringing back an ice show to the Moroccan Theater. He told us that "our passholders have been asking for an ice show for a long time and we were excited to bring one back to them". He continued, "An ice show is a great addition to this park because it combines some of the things we think we do so well here – world class ice skaters, our costumes, the original music, and of course the animals. And we're telling a great story about the natural world".
The announcement for media and passholders included two exquisitely themed cakes that equaled nearly 40 sheet cakes! One cake was themed to Africa, the other to the ocean. The Busch Gardens blog has a story on how these colorful cakes were created!
