SeaWorld’s Spooktacular Offers Gentle Fun for Children and Adults

For many guests, Halloween in Orlando is full of nighttime activities that range from family-friendly to frightful delight. Unfortunately, even the family options are sometimes a little later than sleepy young children can manage.

In addition to this article, we have a 5 minute video showcasing many of the Spooktacular highlights!

SeaWorld Orlando offers an alternative to guests each Saturday and Sunday in October. From noon until 8 p.m., Spooktacular is open for the enjoyment of all – children and adults alike. And even better? The event is included in regular park admission. Guests with annual passes can enjoy it each weekend for no extra cost!

Character Welcome

It took us over 2 hours to enjoy the Spooktacular activities yesterday. That included walking back and forth (once each way) on the path that includes trick-or-treating, stopping for an animal interaction with an opossum, and watching some of the entertainment that lines the entire walkway! We were told that there are over 50 character performers. Our 2+ hours didn't include seeing the show "Sesame Street's Countdown to Halloween" or waiting in line for Penelope's Photacular, where guests can have their photos taken to be possibly seen before Shamu Rocks.

Opposum Interaction

Sea World's Spooktacular is a gentle Halloween event, there is nothing scary about it! The character interactions were very popular, and our favorite experiences were the animal encounters. And while candy is given out one piece at a time (not by the handfuls), the candy barrels are frequent and offer a wide variety of options. SeaWorld gave away over 1 million pieces of candy last year! We somehow missed a couple of locations, but we will be back to enjoy the event again this month. Glaceau Vitaminwater samples were being handed out midway through the path, which was a welcome relief on a scorching day. Hopefully our weather will cool down soon!

Spooktacular Characters

I recommend visiting Spooktacular earlier in the day – we began at about 12:15 p.m. and it was getting a little more crowded by the time we left over 2 hours later. If we'd seen "Sesame Street's Countdown to Halloween", stood in line for Pirate Shamu, and watched the performers for a little longer, we could have easily added another couple of hours to our Spooktacular day.

SeaWorld offered us the chance to decorate a Rice Krispie treat and candy apple. This experience is very affordable, at $5.00 per item ($4.50 for passholders). The Rice Krispie treats are huge, and each item purchased comes with a small cup to fill with decorative candy (sprinkles, Reeses Pieces, candy corn, etc.) We also checked out the sand art activity area, where kids can create a piece of art to take home for $10.00 (the passholder discount does apply here).

Spooktacular is a terrific event, and provides even more value to your SeaWorld day. And if you are local (or visit often), I recommend an annual pass. Once Halloween is over, SeaWorld will dive right into Christmas – and if you think Spooktacular is special, you have to see Christmas at SeaWorld! The shows and lights are spectacular.
