Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Refurbishment Update from January 29, 2025 at Magic Kingdom
Hi everyone!
We have a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment update with photos and video from the Magic Kingdom yesterday after riding both the Walt Disney World Railroad and the Liberty Belle riverboat.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on January 6th, and is scheduled to reopen in 2026 with “a little bit of new magic”. Our first update was on January 10th, and a lot of work has been happening since then.
First, here is our video from yesterday.
We rode the Walt Disney World Railroad past the construction
There is a lot of scaffolding up past the Gold Dust Saloon.
The tree here also has scaffolding around it.
There was some work happening yesterday when we passed by, but more on the other side along the Rivers of America. The crane also was transporting what looked like a garbage dumpster (in the upper right).
We then took the Liberty Bell for another view.
Workers were in front of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad sign.
They were also around the exterior of the mountain.
Two workers were transporting a sign.
Scaffolding has been in place here for a couple of weeks or so now.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been one of my favorite attractions since it opened in 1980 at the Magic Kingdom. I still remember the construction signs before it opened.
Here are more photos from yesterday!
The tracks were removed here earlier this month.
Here is a better look at the scaffolding.
What do you think about the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment?
We will be sharing more photos and video as the work progresses. There will be a time when the Liberty Belle will no longer be available, as the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will close to create the Cars themed attraction (plus there will be a Villains Land coming).
