Boma: Flavors of Africa Breafast Review – 2013, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Boma: Flavors of Africa has long been one of my favorite restaurants on Walt Disney World property. I was fortunate enough to first dine there before Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge even opened as a Disney Reservation Center Cast Member in 2001. During that one-night stay, I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner (it isn't open for lunch). Breakfast is a tradition each year for Jeff's birthday, here is our review from yesterday!
First, I wanted to mention that I am a fairly picky eater. I like spices, but there are a lot of things I won't eat. Boma has a wide variety of options for both lunch and dinner for different palates. (Check out our video of Boma!)
It was pretty busy when we arrived, many of the photos I took here are from after the restaurant was finished seating guests. Boma is a gorgeous restaurant, one of my favorites not only for food but for atmosphere and design. Boma is designed to resemble an African Marketplace, and has a dark, wood-tone look (just as much of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge does).
Breakfast feels more like brunch, with carved meat and a few sides like asparagus and tomatoes in addition to all the standard breakfast fare.
I made a beeline for the grilled asparagus before anything else – I didn't know that I even liked asparagus until about 7 years ago, but usually only grilled. It's very good here!
There was turkey (which I've always seen), and I believe ham as well. I don't eat ham, but the turkey is always delicious – especially with the Boma Mustard, which has a kick to it.
Standard breakfast items include waffles and several kinds of eggs.
This was my first of two plates and included turkey with Boma Mustard, scrambled eggs, asparagus, tomatoes and crispy bacon. There was a different scrambled egg dish that Jeff tried with goat cheese.
Jeff's first dish also included turkey, but with breakfast potatoes and and a small pastry.
I don't remember this from previous visits! French Toast Bread Pudding with a side of Bananas Foster Sauce. This was pretty incredible – it didn't taste exactly like French Toast, but it was a very good bread pudding.
In the background is Jungle Juice, which is the famous Boma morning beverage. Its ingredients include pineapple juice and orange juice. Guests can order orange juice, sodas, tea, Jungle Juice, coffee, etc. as part of breakfast.
We had a couple of mini-muffins, slices of banana bread, along with fruit and potatoes. I like that the pastry portions are small, including the banana bread.

Jeff and his birthday dessert! There were 3 different chocolates, each with a very unique flavor. The white chocolate had coconut flavor, but I couldn't pin the others down.

I recommend arriving later in the morning, and enjoying Boma as a brunch and not just as breakfast. Boma: Flavors of Africa is located in the Jambo House building at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.
As of this writing, the breakfast at Boma: Flavors of Africa costs $18.99 for adults and $10.99 for children 3-9 plux tax and tip (Tables in Wonderland, Disney Dining Plan accepted). The price is higher during peak times. I've seen varying prices online, but some include tax and/or tip to the price. Prices are subject to change.
I have always highly recommended Boma for either lunch or dinner (or both!) If you head over for a meal, remember that Zebra Domes – a favorite dinner dessert – can be found in Animal Kingdom Lodge's quick-service location The Mara as well. They make a great treat to go!
