7/5 Archery at Fort Wilderness

I can't believe it took me nearly a week to get this up!   I've been busy getting ready for a trip to California (I am leaving tomorrow), but I wanted to let everyone know how much fun this was for me.

The new Fort Wilderness archery program started on July 4th.   I'd read that it was to start the 3rd, so I stopped by that day.   Unfortunately, it wasn't up and running yet – so I signed up for Saturday, and took some update photos  around property and fireworks pics from the Fort Wilderness Beach.

I love Fort Wilderness, and always have enjoyed any activities there (including the Segway tour, which is a GREAT time!)    It had been a very long time since I'd picked up a bow and arrow – like about 35 years!   But I was really looking forward to doing so again.

I was a few minutes late, but didn't miss too much.   The instructors were using these ropes to show how to hold the bow.   I am severely uncoordinated, and didn't do such a great job with the rope (and I am glad there are no photos showing how badly I did with it!)

There is quite a lot of safety instruction prior to shooting.   Maybe 20 or so minutes is taken up talking about how to hold the bow, which way the arrow feather would point, how to shoot, how to pull the arrows out, how to pick them up, etc.    Our instructors hadn't yet had tons of practice themselves, they'd been spending most of their time in safety training.

Here is the list of steps for archery (I was a little confused about the steps between "stance" and "draw", but I did pretty well anyway!)
