8/31 Space Mountain, Best Friends, Fort Wilderness Update

Hi everyone!

We went to ride Space Mountain with the new music yesterday – and while I was underwhelmed by it, we have plenty of video and audio for you to see and hear (so you can decide for yourself!)

We also had stopped by the new Best Friends Pet Resort a couple of days ago to get some photos, and a couple of other kennels before their closure.

I'd been up at 6 yesterday morning and wasn't really planning to run out anywhere in the evening – but all the great reviews of the new Space Mountain soundtrack changed our minds.

The first negative reviews I heard were from friends as we were just about to enter into the queue – and when they mentioned "techno music", I realized that perhaps it'd not be exactly what I'd been hoping for.  I am a big fan of the Disneyland Space Mountain sound system and music, especially the Dick Dale version (I remember the first time I rode it in the late 90's and what a huge smile I had on my face as I left the ride).  This is not Disneyland, and the music isn't something I relate to.  That said, there are people who really like it – including others that rode in the car I was in.  The speakers are around the track – sometimes you can hear the music well, sometimes you can't.  We rode twice, and the first time we didn't hear the music until we were well on our way on the ride.  The second time, it was in the queue after a temporary (15 minutes or so) delay where the lights were turned on.  I think it is completely out of place in the post show area.

The ride isn't ruined for me with the addition of the music – but it isn't enhanced either.  I likened it to a "planetary disco", though I'd prefer something non-techno or no sound whatsoever.  There are some "whoosh" noises that are fine.  The one thing I did really like was that the ride seemed faster with the music turned on.  I'd have liked to have seen synched music, no matter what style they chose (and audio in the cars).

I did mention that we had full video and audio – you can find our ride-through, a great audio recording from a speaker and the People Mover with sound here at JeffLangeDVD!

Remember to check out our full video and audio!  Thanks to Jeff at JeffLangeDVD – the best in theme park fan DVD's – for the great speaker audio (with my Canon SX10is camera!)

For some reason, there was a giant spider web displayed on the outside of Space Mountain:
