11/8 Cinderella Castle Christmas Lighting Goes Without a Hitch Second Night – Photos and Video

Hi everyone!

We attended the first two nights of Cinderella's Holiday Wish, which culminates in the lighting of Cinderella Castle. The first night, there was a glitch that left only half of Cindrella Castle lit. The second night, everything went smoothly (we saw more techs than usual getting prepared beforehand).

This is the sixth year that Cinderella Castle has been bathed in lights for Christmas. We were there in 2007 for the first lighting, which was the only year that any of the lightings started at dusk (it was very beautiful!)

I've been to more than a couple of dozen lightings over the last 6 years, and have never seen any of the castle lights stay off. In the first lighting of this season (Tuesday, November 6th), the Fairy Godmother waved her wand from side to side, and nothing happened. The lights at the top of Cinderella Castle did go on. Cinderella, ever easy to please, still said that the castle was "just as I dreamed it would be"!

On Wednesday, we went back so that we could photograph it the way it's supposed to be! I'll have tripod shots of Cinderella Castle after one of the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights as well.

For anyone who hasn't seen the lighting, the short show "Cinderella's Holiday Wish" starts with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald trying to decide what could be done to decorate Cinderella Castle for Christmas. Once they start bickering, the Fairy Godmother appears and tells them that Cinderella gets to decide. Cinderella appears, and says that she would like to have the Castle shimmer like her slippers. And so, the Fairy Godmother makes the wish come true. You can see the entire show here!

Remember to check out our video!

This is always a lovely way to kick off the holiday season! I'll be posting pictures from Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in a few days – along with Gaylord Palms ICE!, and much more of Christmas from Walt Disney World and other area parks and attractions.
