Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Josh Gad Talk Disney’s “Frozen” On D23 Red Carpet – Film Opens Thanksgiving 2013

We were delighted to be able to cover the Friday morning red carpet at the Disney D23 Expo last week during the “Art and Imagination: Animation” presentation. We didn’t know most of whom we would be interviewing before they entered the room, but we learned about new animated films from the actors and filmmakers themselves! One of the films we were familiar with was “Frozen”, which bows in theaters this Thanksgiving. We spoke with Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell and Josh Gad about their roles in this anticipated film . Photos weren’t allowed, but our video that includes all three interviews is below. Here are a few excerpts!

Idina Menzel/Elsa (on identifying with sisterhood, a major theme in the film): “I identified with it completely and wholly. I have a younger sister who is 3 1/2 years younger than me, and we’re very close – but through the years, we’ve gone up and down, we’ve been close, we’ve been estranged …we compete, we support each other. You know, a sister relationship is very complicated, and it’s not something – I don’t think – that we’ve seen that much in a Disney film. I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Kristen Bell/Anna (on her character): “I play Anna, who is a bit atypical of the Disney heroine. She’s very scrappy and excitable and wears her heart on her sleeve, but also can be very awkward at times and puts her foot in her mouth a lot”. When I asked her about how she enjoyed working on a Disney film, she answered, “It’s truthfully the dictionary definition of a dream come true”.

Josh Gad/Olaf (about being immortalized in a Disney film): “Forget about it! I’ve got a 2 1/2 year old daughter. I get a phone call one day, and they’re telling me that I’m going to be the host of World of Color (the “Winter Dreams” Christmas update at Disney California Adventure), which I’ve seen with my daughter. To be immortalized at Disneyland…Disney California Adventure, it’s so amazing.” Gad remembers watching “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” and wanting to be just like Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
