Review: American Q Swine & Spirits at B Resort Orlando: Bring Your Appetite

Hi everyone!

Inside the B Resort located at the Downtown Disney resort area, American Q serves up delicious barbecue nightly. Late last year, we posted a review of our dinner experience, and we were invited back to try out a new (for 2015) weekly promotion called Swine & Spirits. This is just one of 3 weekly promotions this year at American Q! Here is a look at Swine & Spirits, and information about the other promotions.

The centerpiece of American Q is a ’51 cherry red Ford F1 pickup that features a 20+ item flatbed buffet. And honestly, for myself, that is more than enough for a meal. The buffet features corn on the cob, chile con carne, vegetables, salad, a potato bar and more (both times we were there, baked and sweet potatoes were available). And on Mondays, there is a “Meatless Mondays” promotion that I’ll mention below (at a lower price). The ’51 Ford pickup can be seen from outside of the restaurant. The flatbed buffet is available for $34.95 per person plus tax and gratuity, and $10 for children under “seven chickens tall” (about 4 feet 7 inches).

Hours have changed some since the beginning, we recommend following the American Q Facebook page for any updates. The breakfast buffet looked wonderful too when we stayed at the B Resort a couple of months ago! There is a Happy Hour from 4:00pm – 7:00pm that offers half price drinks. Breakfast is from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., and dinner from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Guests can sit inside the pickup for photos.

We started out with a Raspberry Lemon Cosmo and a Moscow Mule. Guests who order the flatbed buffet option (over the à la carte menu) with the Swine & Spirit promotion receive a complimentary spirit that will change each week.

Guests can order appetizers à la carte, there are a number to choose from.

Jeff enjoyed the Deviled Crab Stuffed Eggs ($6)

For $4, guests can order the Swine Candy, which has become a house favorite. It features smoked bacon roasted with molasses. While not as crunchy as the first time we tried it, the flavor was spot on.

Guests can feast on a Tangerine and Whiskey-Brined Suckling Pig during Swine & Spirits, which is brought around in a pot (all other meats are on skewers). We spoke with Chef Justin Leo about buying locally sourced, which they especially do with meat. The meat comes from Florida Farm Fresh Foods, with no artificial hormones. The chicken are free range. The beef is grass fed. And American Q is using a Mangalitsa boar to breed with a Berkshire for Swine & Spirits. The meat here is local and sustainable.

American Q recently won the RP Funding Orlando Chili Cook-Off.

Dinner starts with cornbread, which is brought warm. Ours reminded me of a hidden Mickey.

Potato and pasta salads are on the flatbed buffet.

Peel and eat shrimp.

Both times we’ve visited, asparagus and mushrooms were available (and nicely cooked).

Corn on the cob with the husk.

Salad.

Baked potatoes and sweet potatoes were available.

This was my starter plate – corn, baked potato and salad. It was hard to save room for meat, but I did.

BBQ meats are brought around – my favorites are beef brisket, picanha and flank steak. I didn’t try the pig, but that was popular at the table.

Picanha being sliced from the skewer.

Desserts are not included, but can be ordered. We had a sampling of several desserts, but my favorite is still the S’mores Pie we ordered last year, with layered graham crackers, flourless chocolate cake and toasted marshmallow. It is worth saving room for. Desserts are $6 each, and the S’mores Pie was split between the two of us, with some left over.

American Q may be tucked away a little from other areas at Walt Disney World, but it is worth seeking out. It is walking distance from Downtown Disney (about 10 minutes on foot), and an easy ride by car from anywhere on property.

We look forward to heading back to American Q!

American Q is inside the B Resort & Spa at 1905 Hotel Plaza Boulevard. The restaurant supports local farming and makes several items from scratch, including the sauces at the table.

Self and valet parking are free.

Here are details on all three promotions that guests can enjoy!

Available now, guests can enjoy promotional specialty nights, such as “Meatless Mondays,” “Prime Rib Tuesdays” and “Swine & Spirits” on Wednesdays. Each special is offered weekly.

Meatless Mondays

Every Monday, American Q “goes green” with enhanced vegetarian offerings. Guests can take advantage of the restaurant’s FLATBED BUFFET for $19.95; without meat options, guests enjoy signature, vegetarian-style eats like Smoked Tofu Chili, Veggie-Friendly Soup, Baked Potato Bar, Full Salad Bar, Baked Beans, Mac ‘n Cheese and Spinach Gratin, as well as endless tableside carvings of our Grilled Cauliflower Steak and Vegetable Brochette, among many other vegetarian options.

Prime Rib Tuesdays

On Tuesdays, dinner is prime time for meat lovers. During Prime Rib Tuesdays, guests who purchase the FLATBED BUFFET will also enjoy all-you-can-eat Smoked Prime Rib with Cajun onions, straight from the rodízio, for no additional charge. Make sure to visit early as this promotion is offered “until it lasts” and is provided at no upcharge to guests who purchase the flatbed buffet.

Swine & Spirits

On Wednesdays, guests who purchase the FLATBED BUFFET can unwind with a complimentary beverage and savor American Q’s take on the whole roasted pig. Guests may choose from two ways to indulge: purchase the FLATBED BUFFET for the regular price, and in addition to the usual tableside carvings, enjoy unlimited servings of our Tangerine and Whiskey-Brined Suckling Pig, along with a complimentary featured spirit that changes each week.

For guests relaxing at the bar, a complimentary swine appetizer will be served with each purchase of that week’s featured spirit.

Swine & Spirits” kicked off on January 14 with a 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Kentucky Bourbon.
