Tomorrowland Speedway Reopens at Magic Kingdom (Photos, POV Video)

Hi everyone!

Back in early January, the Tomorrowland Speedway closed for a what was just over a 4-month time period to adjust (shorten) the track. It reopened yesterday, May 19th. This isn’t the first time the track was shortened through the years, most recently for Storybook Circus during the New Fantasyland expansion about 8 years ago. It is hard to believe it has been that long! The ride honestly is about the same as its always been, the track change is barely noticeable. I was asked many times if anything had changed with the cars, like if they had gone to electric – they haven’t. I first drove these in 1977 and the experience is still pretty much the same. The cars are gas powered. We have photos and video from yesterday.

Here is our POV video and then photos!

The stand-by line said 45 minutes, and we were able to secure a Fastpass just an hour or so before riding the first time.

We ended up riding twice since there was almost no stand-by line during Festival of Fantasy Parade.

The umbrellas used for shade here are now white.

Here are some photos from the ride around the Tomorrowland Speedway track, including under the People Mover.

The construction for TRON is modestly visible, with a large fence covering much of it. We have photos from yesterday of the TRON construction here.

The crane and support columns can be seen.

One of my favorite views during the ride is of Space Mountain.

In just a couple of years, we’ll be seeing TRON and Space Mountain while riding around the track.

Cinderella Castle is in view.

And I remember when New Fantasyland was being built – you can see a small part of it in the distance.

Heading to the end of the ride.

It is nice to have the Tomorrowland Speedway back, it is one of the attractions I still remember riding as a kid. It was a pretty big deal back then – well before I had a driver’s license.

Looking down at the cars.

And the Victory Circle.

It is nice to see the Tomorrowland Speedway back! The Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed for TRON construction, it will be good when that is operational again as well. I don’t know when that will be, it is something I do get asked occasionally.
