Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair: Our Experience During Preview w/Food & Drinks (Photos, Video)

Hi everyone!

Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort reopens to eligible Disney Vacation Club members on July 11th, 2022 as Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair.  The lounge has been closed to guests and now has a new look and a new villain backstory. We were invited to a preview, where we tried drinks and food and enjoyed “Disney Enchantment” fireworks from the terrace. Here is a look at our experience!

Lanterns were set out on our way in. The stormy weather made a perfect backdrop to the villainous evening.

We entered into Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair.

Here is our video first, then photos.

There is a sign that wasn’t out yet telling guests please wait to be seated.

Here is a look at the space. I took the next few photos later when most everyone was outside.

The Disney Vacation Club says about the backstory to Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair:

So, when our own Top of the World Lounge temporarily closed its doors atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, it didn’t take long for the idle enclave to become a devils’ playground. We’re not sure how they got here (we can only guess by monorail), but we do know they were here. For when we returned to reopen this picturesque place to mingling Members, we found stuff left behind by these hustlers in a hurry.

Curious couture from their wicked wardrobes. Artwork befitting their ghastly galleries. And rebellious recipes for their cunning concoctions. That’s when we did what so many great Cast Members have done before us.

We gave the place a longer name. Welcome home to the Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair. Like the best Disney stories, it’s a place of magic… with a touch of tragic

Bob Gurr’s monorail mural is still here (I was asked about it).

Here is a look at the front of the menu.

There are quite a few drinks to choose from, including “Crafted Concoctions” and “Wicked Wines”. I will show cocktails later in the article.

There are also “Bubbling Brews” and then “Fiendish Fare”.

An Allergy-Friendly Menu is also available.

Here is another look at the monorail mural. Food was set out on the bar for us to try and also to photograph.

Now for the food! The Cosmic Power Flatbread is plant-based.

The Tomatoes of Terror Flatbread was good, the item I’d most likely order.

“Who’s Afraid of Pork Belly Sliders” is next. Jeff enjoyed the sliders.

The Twisted Tales Pretzel reminds me of Pym Kitchen – it’s huge! the pretzel is served with a whole-grain mustard.

The Seven Layer Cake (Seven Lair Cake) is back. This is a delicious dessert and really a must-do when visiting.

The Empress Charcuterie Board features cheeses and meats.

This was Jeff’s favorite item, the Unfortunate Souls Shrimp. The shrimp were large and he liked the different flavors that go with it.

We were there during sunset and then for fireworks. Sunset was gorgeous as we watched the sun set behind the Magic Kingdom.

We also had a great view of the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run next to Space Mountain.

We ordered some drinks off the menu. By far my favorite drink is the Cursed Pirate, with Diplomatico Planas Rum, Gosling Seal Rum, Passion Fruit, Pineapple, Lime Juice, Cane Sugar and Blue Curacao.

This is The Other Side.

Mirror Mirror Moonshine with the Matcha Tea Foam.

Tower Trap.

Photos of villains are around the Villains Lair.

Ursula.

The Hag, with apples below her.

The book “Lair: Radical Homes and Hideouts of Movie Villains” can be found on tables.

Maleficent and The Evil Queen.

We watched “Disney Enchantment” fireworks from the terrace. This is such a great location, we’ve been here previously as the guests of Disney Vacation Club members but not in years.

Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair is part of Disney Vacation Club Membership Extras.

From the Disney Vacation Club:

**Access to Top of the World Lounge requires an eligible Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation booked by using your Membership, valid photo ID, and digital Disney Vacation Club Membership Card.

Top of the World Lounge didn’t need an update, but the food and drink theming are very cool, as is the atmosphere. The makeover certainly allowed the lounge to be more creative with drinks in particular. Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair is a fantastic location for Disney Vacation Club members to unwind as it always has been, with a great view of fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. While we aren’t Disney Vacation Club members, many of our friends and some family are. We have been very fortunate over the years to be invited a few times to the Top of the World Lounge. It’s a nice membership benefit for eligible members.

Thank you to Disney for inviting us to Top of the World Lounge, all views are ours.
