ICE! returns to Gaylord Palms Resort on November 18th, 2022, and yesterday the resort extended a warm welcome to the talented artisans from Harbin, China who will be carving the story of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in 2 million pounds of ice. Some of the artisans have already been here for a few days to get a head start on carving, and we had the opportunity to see what they’ve accomplished so far. Here is a look from yesterday in photos and video!
First, here is our video that includes the morning event, plus an overview of the carving currently underway.
Nutmeg the gingerbread character led the way for the artisans as they walked through the lobby of Gaylord Palms.
It takes 40 artisans to create the ICE! display.
The resort offered up a traditional lion dance as part of the morning welcome.
The artisans posed for photos with Nutmeg. A large card was given to them by Gaylord Palms, signed by employees (STARS). The card says, “We are so glad to have you back. We appreciate all you do to make ICE! come alive for our guests this holiday season!”.
I always enjoy watching the artisans work. It is amazing how they bring blocks of ice to life! Guests at ICE! may see an artisan sharing their craft again this year in the Carvers Showcase area of the exhibit. Here are an assortment of photos from yesterday. You can see Max as well as the red Santa suit the Grinch wears, plus other assorted sculptures.
Christmas at Gaylord Palms runs from November 18th, 2022 – January 1st, 2023.
A sign lets guests know that ICE! is back this year.
We have been covering Christmas at Gaylord Palms since 2010, and have attended prior to that. It is one of my favorite events of the year and the holiday season.
