4/16 Epcot Test Track’s Final Day – Photos and Video (Plus Vintage Photo Bonus)

Hi everyone!

Last night was the final night of Test Track as we know it. Sometime later this year, the plans are for it to re-open as the Chevrolet Design Center. We were there to see it off! Check out our video of this final night as well.

According to the new Epcot guidemap, "We're gearing up for an exciting re-imagined Test Track! When complete, you can design your own custom concept vehicle, then buckle into your "SimCar" and put your design through it's paces on the exhilarating hills and switchbacks of the Test Track circuit."

Test Track opened in late 1998 after lengthy delays (originally it was due for a spring 1997 opening). I had been a big fan of World of Motion, and I still miss it.

I had the opportunity to ride Test Track first during a Cast Member preview in 1998. I lived in the St. Petersburg area at the time, and drove up to meet a Cast Member from online – unfortunately, we never found each other. I did find someone else who was willing to take us – and I remember the line being long, about 2 hours.

Jeff has many photos of pre-opening of Test Track, and wanted to share some with our readers!

There was a Test Track car, along with a model of the attraction:

Jeff took these during a hard hat tour, which included a view out of the GM VIP Lounge:

I remember this sign during the Sneak Peek, letting guests know to expect stops and delays during the ride:

Back to yesterday – I took some photos during the day before heading over the Magic Kingdom (then at night, which will follow on the next page):
