DVD Review: Elena of Avalor: Realm of the Jaquins

Hi everyone!

We received Elena of Avalor: Realm of the Jaquins to review. Elena of Avalor quickly became popular as she – and the show – debuted back in 2016. There are three episodes here as part of the DVD – one being “Realm of the Jaquins”, which is a 44 minute episode. There are also 10 bonus shorts, for a total of 90 minutes not including the 10 shorts. It is a nice amount of the Disney Junior show for kids who are fans of Elena.

The synopsis says, “Join Crown Princess Elena as she soars through a hidden gateway into Vallestrella, the mysterious, dazzling domain of the jaquins. On the way there, she accidentally releases a mythical forest sprite that could endanger Avalor! Now Elena must find the jaquins’ magical, legendary Sunbird Oracle to save the kingdom”.

The episodes are cute, with snappy dialogue and humor. Of the three, I thought “Three Jaquins and a Princess” was the most fun, and includes jaquin egg sitting duty by Princess Isabel. Once the eggs hatch, the babies start creating havoc within the household before disappearing outside the palace. It is up to Elena of Avalor to find them, which doesn’t end up being too difficult. Even the havoc doesn’t end up being nearly as damaging as it could have been, and the bake-off that the episode revolves around continues.

Songs sung throughout the shows are generally catchy and always well sung, and the voice cast is more than capable, led by Aimee Carrero as Elena. The best song on the disc, in my opinion, is “The Right Thing to Do”, which has a Hamilton vibe.

Elena of Avalor: Realm of the Jaquins is a terrific 90 minutes+ for any Elena of Avalor fan.
