Disney Shares First Look at Spaceship Earth as a Beacon of Magic for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary

Epcot’s Spaceship Earth will become one of four Beacons of Magic on October 1st, 2021 for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary – although of the four icons (the other three are Cinderella Castle, Tower of Terror and Tree of Life), this will be the only icon to receive a permanent lighting package. Today Disney gives a look at what that will look like in this first-look image, with lighting fixtures “evoking twinkling starlight in an evening sky”.

This first-look image provides a glimpse into the near future when the night will come alive in an entirely new way at EPCOT when Spaceship Earth becomes a Beacon of Magic at night at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Inspired by the past and the future, the classic Spaceship Earth color gradients will be rendered richer by new lighting fixtures evoking twinkling starlight in an evening sky. The World’s Most Magical Celebration kicks off on October 1st, 2021 and will last for 18 months.
